It might be dropping this weekend, but we’ve all had a pair of the Air Jordan 3 Cyber Monday at some point in our lives. You might not realize it but at some point you’ve had “that pair” of sneakers. The one that is so rote and simple in color that you don’t think twice about wearing them and just beating them up. It doesn’t matter if you’re going to school or running a few errands or just hanging out with friends; you’ve had that pair of kicks that are just fire enough that you won’t get clowned for wearing something lame but clearly have more than a few miles on them. It’s the sneaker you wear to prove that you actually #wearyourkicks.

For some people it might be a pair of Chuck Taylors while others might go with the reliable Vans Skate Hi. A sneakerhead really entrenched in the culture for decades now might go with some Air Force 1s or Air Jordan 1s, but today the adidas NMD and Ultra Boost are staking their claim for the modern fans.
The last pair of kicks that I would consider my “everydays” prior to taking this job was the Air Jordan 3 Pure Money. Right before I decided to jump on writing as a career choice, I wasn’t buying kicks all the time. Coming out of college, most of my sneaker purchases were limited by how much money was in my bank account and what was on clearance at Shiekh Shoes or Foot Locker (word to those stores because they were selling OG Kobe 1s for 50 bucks). There were exceptions to the rule, but for the most part I built my humble collection by never paying full price and the highlight of that was the Pure Money 3s that I found at the wall of a Nike Outlet Store in 2007.

As a kid, I wore what my parents wanted and eventually what I could coerce them into buying for me. In college I wore a lot of sandals because kicks weren’t the first thing on my mind. Post-college, I was finding my way while wearing those 3s and Kobes. It’s nothing like today where I’m fortunate enough to have the access that I do and I find it hard to literally wear a sneaker more than a handful of times (Ultra Boosts and Internationalists notwithstanding). The Pure Money 3 was the perfect shoe for that period of my life because it was versatile enough to handle just about anything non-formal in my wardrobe. Hell, those shoes have traveled with me across the world because they “just work”, even if I did have clean them quite a bit to keep them fresh.
But in time, white turns to yellow and paint chips away and feet grow so I had to say goodbye to the Pure Money 3s. I’ve owned a number of 3s in that time, but I think the Cyber Monday 3s (that aren’t releasing in Cyber Monday anymore but we still call it that because Google Searches) can be that shoe that replicates that feeling.
