PGA Kicks: Rory McIlroy Wins Tour Championship And FedEx Cup In The Nike Lunar Control 4

So yeah, it’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Rory McIlroy, the former top-ranked golfer in the world and shining star of Nike Golf. Prior to the winning the Deutsche Bank Championship a few weeks ago, McIlroy had last won on the US PGA Tour in May of 2015. That’s long stretch for a player of Rory’s stature and talent, especially when in that time, names like Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Dustin Johnson all made a case for being the world’s best. But finally, it looks like the original leader of the new generation is poised to take his crown back.

McIlroy won The Tour Championship yesterday in dramatic fashion, taking the title after four playoff holes and outlasting Ryan Moore and fellow Nike Golf athlete Kevin Chappell. The win also helped McIlroy take home the FedEx Cup, the PGA’s season-long points chase. In total, Rory won a total $11.5 million this weekend. Let that sink in for a second before you think is golf is dead…

Anyways, Nike Golf has to be thrilled with Rory’s win, especially in light of their stepping out of the equipment game. With exception of the putter, Rory is still Nike Golf for practically everything else. Here’s a breakdown of Rory’s gear during his win on Sunday.

  • Apparel: Nike Performance
  • Footwear: Nike Lunar Control 4
  • Driver: Nike Vapor Fly Pro 9.5° (MRC Diamana S+ 70 XTS)
  • Fairway Wood: Nike Vapor Speed 3-wood 15°, 5-wood 19°
  • Irons: Nike VR Pro (3-9)

NBA Kicks: Thabo Sefalosha Will Keep On Wearing Nike Air Max This Season

Remember the good old days when the Golden State Warriors blew a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, even though they had the greatest regular season in history and the reigning, defending, unanimous MVP? Those halcyon days are going to seem like a distant memory as we are only a handful of weeks away from the 2016-17 season tipping off. Today, several teams are getting started with Media Day including the Atlanta Hawks, which included a random tidbit about one of the NBA’s more quirkier sneaker stars, Thabo Sefalosha.

Last season, Sefalosha caught the eye of the blogs when he started wearing the classic Nike Air Max 1 and Nike Air Max 90 to play in. While there’s nothing wrong with rocking the old school as evidenced by so many players balling in Jordan retros, the Air Max on Sefalosha’s feet are usually associated with running and training more than playing basketball.

Today, Sefalosha confirmed that he will continue to play in Air Max kicks. Good to know the press is asking the question that we in the sneaker community desperately need answered.
