So yeah, it’s been a minute since we’ve heard from Rory McIlroy, the former top-ranked golfer in the world and shining star of Nike Golf. Prior to the winning the Deutsche Bank Championship a few weeks ago, McIlroy had last won on the US PGA Tour in May of 2015. That’s long stretch for a player of Rory’s stature and talent, especially when in that time, names like Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Dustin Johnson all made a case for being the world’s best. But finally, it looks like the original leader of the new generation is poised to take his crown back.
McIlroy won The Tour Championship yesterday in dramatic fashion, taking the title after four playoff holes and outlasting Ryan Moore and fellow Nike Golf athlete Kevin Chappell. The win also helped McIlroy take home the FedEx Cup, the PGA’s season-long points chase. In total, Rory won a total $11.5 million this weekend. Let that sink in for a second before you think is golf is dead…
Anyways, Nike Golf has to be thrilled with Rory’s win, especially in light of their stepping out of the equipment game. With exception of the putter, Rory is still Nike Golf for practically everything else. Here’s a breakdown of Rory’s gear during his win on Sunday.
