March Madness Is In Full Effect With The Nike KD 8 Elite Connecticut PE
By SoleInsider
The Nike KD 8 Elite doesn’t officially hit retailers until April 14th, but Connecticut has already received their very own PE colorway of Kevin Durant’s 8th signature silhouette.
This pair wasn’t designed for the men’s basketball team though, Nike decided to show some love to the women’s team. Looking at this KD 8 Elite you can see that the majority of the upper is done in white with navy blue detailing landing on the Swoosh and KD branding, and the midsole. Adding that special PE touch is the Husky dog logo on the heel and UCONN written on the translucent outsole.
Look for the Connecticut Women’s Basketball team to wear these KD 8 Elite PEs during the NCAA tournament and give us your thoughts on this colorway down below.
The latest pair to begin arriving at retailers is this new multicolor option that you see above which takes on the mid-top construction. This pair is very similar to the NikeLab multicolor color option that released earlier this week with a few minor tweaks. This Ultra Flyknit takes on a full multicolor Flyknit upper with black accents on the Swoosh, tongue, inner liner, laces, eyestay, laces and parts of the outsole. Capping things off and adding some color contrast is a white sole unit.
Anyone interested in a pair can find these at select Nike retailers now for $175.
I thought that the white multicolor pair was nice but this one is even better. The combination of black with the multicolor Flyknit is a very good luck.
There is now a new colorway that is beginning to surface at select retailers with this Midnight Navy option that you see above. Covered in a dark Midnight Navy nubuck on the upper, University Red then makes an appearance on the toe, ankle, heel, and the Huarache branding on the tongue. Finishing things off are touches of white on the midsole/outsole, toecap, branding, laces and the neoprene tongue/bootie.
If you like this colorway of the Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 you can hit up select Nike retailers now and buy your pair for $150.
Out of all the colorways that have returned in 2016 this one is my favorite so far. I’m still waiting on Nike to release the OG black and grey pair though. I wanted a pair of those so bad back when I was in high school
The Nike Free Mercurial Superfly Almost Goes Triple White
By SoleInsider
Very few shoes make a debut like the Free Mercurial Superfly did back in 2014. You might remember Mark Parker lacing these up two years ago, and since them a slew of sick GR releases as well as limited HTM fare have made this Sportswear shoe one of the brand’s most popular ever since. There’s no stopping the flow of new colorways because this upcoming white/red pair is dropping in stores soon. Expect this upcoming colorway of the Nike Free Mercurial Superfly to hit stores beginning in April.
Back in August of 2015 we began hearing rumors of a possible Wu-Tang themed colorway of the popular Nike Air Foamposite. Seven months later it appears that we have just gotten our first look at this upcoming release.
The Nike Air Foamposite One Wu-Tang features a full yellow shell upper along with black detailing on the tongue, laces, inner liner, eyestay, outsole and carbon fiber shank. Additional yellow accents have been added on the tongue and heel pull tabs and the branding on the tongue, heel and by the toe.
There is no exact release date for this Wu-Tang Foamposite yet but it’s expected to release some time in June for a retail price of $230. Keep it locked to Kicks On Fire and make sure to follow our Nike Air Foamposite One Wu-Tang launch page for the latest news, images and updates on this release.
So all it takes is a yellow and black Foamposite to make it a Wu-Tang colorway? Am I missing something here or do these look just like the Electrolimes?
Channel Your Warrior Spirit With The Nike Kobe 11 Bruce Lee
By SoleInsider
Nike is giving us a double dose of Kobe 11s this week as we’ll be seeing the Bruce Lee colorway arrive at retailers tomorrow. Earlier in the week we saw the release of the white/multicolor pair that had many people hesitant due to the $220 price tag.
This upcoming colorway of the Kobe 11 is covered in University Gold throughout most of the Flyknit upper with Black hitting the back half of the shoe, the tongue and Swoosh branding. Nike describes this colorway of the Kobe 11 as paying “tribute to Kobe’s heroic mind and body in the heat of battle and beyond.” Kobe has been through countless trials and tribulations in his career including injury-filled seasons his last few years in the league, but he continues to always battle and overcome.
You’ll be able to purchase the Nike Kobe 11 Bruce Lee at select Nike retailers and nike.com on March 19th for $200.
Easily my favorite colorway of the Kobe 11 so far along with the debut Achilles Heel version. I hope I?m able to pick these up for a few dollars below retail down the line.
Take A Look At The 2016 USA Nike Vapor Basketball Uniforms
By SoleInsider
Fresh off the Nike Innovation Summit, the Swoosh has just officially unveiled the new United States Nike Vapor basketball uniforms that feature their new AeroSwift technology.
The new uniforms, which will be worn during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and are modeled by Kevin Durant and Elena Delle Donne, feature font that takes inspiration from classic American typography. The Home kit features a spectrum of blues that range from obsidian to deep royal blue. Gestural lines can also be seen running down the sides of the jersey and around the front of the shorts. Another pretty cool feature is the iridescent fabric that covers the country name, numbering and the Swoosh. Up above we see the away uniforms which are white and feature the same technology and details as the home uniform.
Hiroshi Fujiwara Presents The Nike Air Max LD-Zero H
By SoleInsider
HTM is getting into the mix this year in the month of March which is unofficially Air Max month. Hiroshi Fujiwara has created a new silhouette that reflects his contribution to the longstanding partnership. Here is our first look at the Nike Air Max LD-Zero H.
Fujiwara explained that when he was creating the shoe he wanted to create “something that would resonate with people who are interested in classic styles.” The design of the Nike Air Max LD-Zero H blends the upper of the classic Nike Boston with sole unit of the Air Max 2014. As far as materials go, the shoe has been crafted with nylon, leather and suede in a blue color palette with white accents for that lifestyle appeal.
You can purchase your pair on March 19th at nike.com/airmax and on Air Max Day at select retailers for $210.
This new silhouette reminds me of the Roshe LD-1000 but with the sole unit of the newer Air Max models. It’s a decent looking show but I don’t know if people will be willing to pay $210 for it.
The all-new Nike Hyperdunk 2016 is ready to make its mark at yet another Olympic games. If you recall, the first Hyperdunk launched in 2008 during the Beijing Olympics, during which Kobe Bryant led Team USA to a huge win in the Gold Medal game in the Olympics. In 2012, LeBron James laced up the Hyperdunk 2012+, which featured the digital technology that translated jumps, sprints, and more into numerical data. For this 2016 Olympics, the Hyperdunk 2016 will make a huge splash once again, with the special edition Flyknit version reserved for Team USA. China, Brasil, Lithuania, Canada, and Spain are also represented in the non-Flyknit form. Get a thorough look at all these country editions below and stay tuned for the Hyperdunk 2016 to official launch this July.
Paul Rodriguez’s Nike SB models continue to thrive, and it’s kind of hard to believe that we’re now almost up to ten silhouettes for the brand’s premier skater. The latest Nike SB Paul Rodriguez 9 has been a hit thanks to a dedication to enhancing performance technology in Lunarlon and breathable mesh, but even that looks structurally tame in comparison to Eric Koston’s new model. Nike Skateboarding is now turning to casual after-skate comfort for their next release with the introduction of the Nike SB P-Rod 9 R/R (the R/R stands for Rest and Relaxation or Recuperation, but both are just as apt as the next. The Lunarlon foam and Nike Free technology allow for a comfortable yet flexible ride while a one-piece upper utilizes breathable mesh for added ventilation. The latest White/Racer Blue-Total Crimson look balances the perfect combination of flashy and subdued. Get with us after the break for a better look at the latest P-Rod update and know that this pair will be arriving at stateside retailers this Spring 2016 season.
Kobe’s warrior mentality was on full display during his entire career, but over 20 seasons NBA fans have watched his competitive drive morph from a smiling, cocky eighteen-year-old to a cold-blooded assassin known as the Black Mamba. Kobe’s persona was inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill which in turn took a few inspirations from Bruce Lee’s seminal kung-fu cinematic classics. Starting with the Kobe 4, Bryant’s signature Nikes have featured a recurring Bruce Lee homage in yellow, black, and red to pay homage to the kung-fu master’s vintage jumpsuits. The last pair Kobe will ever have the chance to wear on-court will be this weekend’s Kobe 11 “Bruce Lee”, consisting of a beautiful array of yellow and black Flyknit while jagged sword slices are stitched onto the heel in university red. What do you think of the Nike Kobe 11 Elite Low “Bruce Lee”? You can grab a pair tomorrow, March 19th for $200 USD or check for your size right now on eBay or at key retailers like Livestock.
The UConn Huskies Womens Basketball Team To Debut A Nike KD 8 Elite PE
By SoleInsider
The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team might be the most dominant collegiate program ever assembled, in any sport. The Huskies have had win streaks of over 70 and 90 games respectively throughout the past decade and a half and have even claimed the national championship an astounding 10 times. Nike Basketball is rewarding the squad’s hard work and effort with a new PE for tourney season in the Nike KD 8 Elite. The towering sock-like neoprene high-top makes the Kobe Elite series look like a mid-top in comparison. The Swoosh opted to go simple for this pair, as a standard white, navy, and red construction features Huskie branding on the heel and a “UCONN” wordmark on the semi-translucent outsole. What do you think about the Nike KD 8 Elite “UCONN” PE? Check out more photos below.

The new-age Air Force 1 also features black leather detailing up top, while the cored-out ‘Ultra’ tooling below pairs with the Flyknit upper for the lightest Air Force 1’s ever. Buy, Pass, Wait: Air Jordan 4 Dunk From Above, Nike Kobe 11 Bruce Lee, adidas NMD
By SoleInsider
The sneaker weekend got off a raucous start with the launch and subsequent sell out of the “general release” adidas NMDs so everything else dropping today and tomorrow is going to have a lot to live up to. It’s like Star Wars: The Force Awakens debuted on Thursday and a bunch of romantic comedies have to follow that wave of momentum. Yeah, good luck with that. Doesn’t mean the other kicks landing to stores now aren’t good, but they aren’t the force of nature that the NMD has now become. Some might say its a revolution. Enjoy this week’s Buy, Pass, Wait…
Juan Martinez, Editor-In-Chief: (BUY) I’m betraying my preference for the Air Jordan 3 by saying I would buy a pair of 4s, but it’s really about the colorway just being that damn good. I would be curious to see a pair of 3s in this style and see how it would look, however.
Andres Carrillo, News: (PASS) I feel like many people are sleeping on this colorway of the Air Jordan 4. Maybe it’s the colorway? I think it’s real clean and different because of the colors, materials and especially that gum outsole. I would pick up a pair but only if I can get them for below retail. Other than that I wouldn’t spend $190 plus tax on a colorway that I’m not in love with.
Renz Ofiaza, News: (WAIT) I’m biased towards the silhouette in general. The colorway and inspiration is pretty solid as well. I’m not too crazy about it, but for a lower price, I’d consider purchasing.
Juan Carrillo, News: (BUY) Being an Indiana Pacers loyalist, this is a shoe I’ve been looking forward to since it got unveiled early last year. Love the shoe. The navy upper and the gum sole is a perfect combination. Not only do I hope to pick it up, but it’s actually going to be my first sneaker pick up of the year.
Nike Kobe 11 Bruce Lee
Nike
EIC Juan: (BUY) One of my great sneaker regrets is missing out on a pair of the Nike Zoom Kobe 5 Bruce Lee. My nephew ended up with a pair of the Kobe 9 EM that was considering many to be a Bruce Lee-inspired pair so it just wasn’t worth it to me because once I see a family member owning the same pair as mine, I don’t want us to double up in the family. I love the 11 and in this colorway I’m sold.
Andres: (WAIT) The best colorway of the Kobe 11 so far along with the debut Achilles Heel. The combination of yellow and black is always appealing, especially when it’s done on such a nice Nike Flyknit sneaker like this. Hopefully I can buy these in a few months when they go on sale.
Renz: (BUY) I really like the faded execution on the silhouette. I’m not into bright sneakers as much anymore, but this pair is a pretty solid exception.
News Juan: (WAIT) Another sneaker that I fell in love at first sight. Not really sure how people are going to react on this release, but I really hope not many people are feeling the yellow upper, that way it gives me time to pick them up at a lower price somewhere down the line.
adidas NMD (If You Can Still Find A Pair)
EIC Juan: (BUY) I want that Core Black colorway with white heel patch and I’m holding out hope that a local mall still has a size 11 lurking in the back somewhere. I won’t lose sleep if I don’t grab a pair since I have the first NMD PK but it would be nice to see adidas make even more pairs now that they realize they have a potentially huge mainstream hit on their hands.
Andres: (WAIT) There’s so many colorways that released that it’s hard to decide on buying just one. I like a handful of pairs and I’ll try and buy one so I can finally add an NMD to my collection. I like the Core Black Primeknit and all three tonal colorways with the mesh uppers that retail for $120. So simple and clean. You think people will sleep on them and maybe I can pick up a pair for below retail?? (NOTE: You can tell Andres wrote this before #NMDday)
Renz: (BUY – Monochrome Pack) I’ve been a fan of the sneaker since its official unveiling. Both colorways are instant classics and a crowd favorite for sure. The build and design is just a winner in my view.
News Juan: (BUY but FAILED) So I set my alarm to 5am in hopes picking up the women’s Maroon suede colorway of the NMD. To my surprise, I couldn’t even get on the Finish Line site. I tried to keep my eyes open on the loading/waiting page for about 15 minutes, but I never got through. The hype was real and unfortunately I took an L this time around. I’m crossing my fingers in hopes of a restock.
adidas Florist City Collection
adidas
EIC Juan: (GOT ‘EM on the Lillard 2, PASS on Rose 6) The all-red or almost all-red theme is starting to get long in the tooth even though it looks great on the Lillard 2.
Andres: (PASS) With so many other sneakers that I would “like” to buy this weekend both of these adidas Basketball sneakers just don’t grasp my attention. I’ll pass easily on both pairs.
Renz: (BUY on Lillard 2, PASS on Rose 6) I’m just biased towards this colorway of the Lillard 2 and the execution of the floral motif have been well placed. The design of the Rose 6 looks solid as well, but I’m not inclined towards the colorway.
News Juan: (PASS) For the most part, I feel like the floral print is a little played out at the current moment. In my opinion both pairs are strictly for on the court use, and since my knee issues have put me on the sidelines indefinitely I see no point in picking these up.
Nike Air Penny 2 Miami Heat
EIC Juan: (PASS) I’ll never forget the look in my face when I saw the Air Penny 2 for the first time back in the ’90s. It was a look of disappointment and shock because I couldn’t believe Nike botched the sequel to maybe the greatest signature shoe debut ever. And the worst part is the overwhelmingly number of people who love the Air Penny 2 over the first pair. Now I’m old enough to give the “disappointed dad” look which will should guilt trip somebody.
Andres: (PASS) The Miami Heat colorway of the Air Penny 2 is one of the better colorways but I don’t see myself buying a pair. Shout out to Penny though, the one that played for the Magic back in the 90’s.
Renz: (BUY) Aside from the foams, I’ve always been a fan of this model. It reminds me of the classic Nike KG’s that I used to wear often back then. The colorway overall is pretty appealing in general.
News Juan: (PASS) Not a fan of the model. Seems a bit too bulky. Could care less about the colorway and the team affiliated with it. Easy pass on my end.
What Brand Has Been “Winning” 2016 So Far?
EIC Juan: Nike
This is Nike proper we’re talking about and not Jordan Brand. The Nike LunarEpic Flyknit has been a great addition to the family, the Nike Golf Flyknit Chukka is something I wear both on and off the course and the Nike Kobe 11 is one of the few kicks that I’ve actually paid money for this year. But it was the announcement that were made during the Nike Innovation Summit that showed me why everybody is still playing catch-up to the swoosh and that Nike pays more attention to the competition than we thought. They’re adapting to the current climate to sneaker culture, we’re just to busy gawking at NMDs to notice right now. It’s going to be fun (and probably expensive) to see how it all plays out.
Andres: Jordan Brand or adidas
Nike
It’s either between Jordan Brand or adidas. Jordan Brand retros started off kind of slow in January but have been coming with some pretty impressive releases since All Star Weekend. The Air Jordan 12 “The Master” colorway surprisingly sold out so you can expect the same with the upcoming colorways of the Air Jordan 12. As for adidas, they may not have any planned Yeezy releases until Summer, but with all of the NMD colorways they’re releasing at the moment they’re still keeping people happy.
Renz: adidas
adidas
Their momentum from last year is still going strong for the first half of this year so far. The introduction of the NMD silhouette and how it’s pretty much adored instantly is a pretty good sign. Plus other styles such as the Tubulars are receiving great colorways as well. The design of these sneakers, at least from my view, are winners. I’m pretty much still a Nikehead, but what the three stripes continue to offer really can’t be overlooked anymore.
News Juan: adidas
Sneaker releases have been a bit underwhelming the first 2.5 months of the year, but I feel like adidas is on top right now. The NMD releases that dropped yesterday did very well WITHOUT the help of Kanye, that’s a great thing to see. Long live the Boost. They’ve also come out with other NMD releases that keep selling out instantly. Not to mention the Tubular Doom, Radial and Defiant.
Even being one of the all-time classic Nike Basketball models, the Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 has received little buzz on its latest retro return. Perhaps it will make a little more noise now with this latest release, an OG “USA” colorway. If the recent “All-Star” and “MPLS” colorways weren’t enough to catch your attention, maybe this look in navy, white, and red with an excellent color block will be. Don’t sleep on the classic model any longer; find the “USA” Huarache 2K4 arriving now at select Nike Sportswear retailers.
