Get Ready For The Kubo x Air Jordan 15

While we speculated this past December 2015 that a sneaker collaboration with the animation studio, Laika, would come to fruition, a recent COMPLEX-exclusive interview with iconic Nike designer, Tinker Hatfield, has revealed that the Air Jordan 15 will be revived in a special variation this season that’s inspired by the animated film, Kubo and the Two Strings.

With the studio essentially owned by Nike, and Phil Knight as the co-founder, the movie which is set to debut on Thursday, August 18th, is directed by his son Travis Knight.

The film is centralized on a young boy named Kubo, who must locate a magical suit of armor worn by his late father in order to defeat a vengeful spirit from the past.

Two iterations of the Air Jordan 15 will be offered — one in blue/black and the other in red/black — with each suggested to be extremely limited. On August 8, the Just Keep Livin Foundation will host a live eBay auction with dozens of pairs of the Kubo 15 sneakers up for bidding, as all proceeds will go to the Foundation?s programs that teach the importance of decision-making, health, education, and active living.

Then, on August 10, gamers who sign up to play the new Moon Beast game at the official Kubo and the Two Strings website, can compete to be the top scorers and win a pair of the Kubo 15s as well.

Expect more ways to acquire a pair very soon, but, stay tuned to KicksOnFire for further updates.

Author’s Take

When I was younger, I wasn’t really into this pair, but now, I appreciate it a lot more. I like the colorways and these should get the attention it deserves.

Red, white and navy is prominent across its entirety, while pops of metallic gold adorn the tongue label and jumpman logo for additional vibrance, which also evoke the first-place medals.

I like the original version better. The colorway is still appealing, but I prefer the all-white upper instead. It should still get a lot of attention none the less.

Tinker Hatfield Transforms His Least Favorite Design, The Air Jordan 15, For Kubo Collaboration

Tinker Hatfield, we’re in the same boat with ya: we hate the Air Jordan 15 too. In a candid interview, the legendary designer admits that his least favorite design of the portfolio is the the woven, swooped tongue sneaker that came immediately after Michael Jordan called it a career (at least in a Bulls uniform). To celebrate the upcoming release of LAIKA’s Kubo film, Tinker got the opportunity to rework the shoe, and does so rather forwardly by adding a zipper construction as well as cleaner inner ankle bootie. Also reflecting the movie’s good-vs-evil nature is the alternating color-blocking of the shoes. Release info for the Kubo x Air Jordan 15 hasn’t been revealed yet, but one way to secure a pair if to play the Moon Beast game on the film’s official website here and getting a high score. Peep the full gallery ahead.

Even more lifestyle imagery of the upcoming Air Jordan 6 Black Cat continue to be showcased, as the model is now juxtaposed against a pair of tiger camo pants.

Emphasizing the sneaker’s blacked-out profile perfectly, the leather upper is detailed with slightly enlarged perforations throughout to promote ventilation across its profile. Unlike the all-black AJ 3 and AJ 4 renditions, however, this pair is complemented with hits of white gracing the midsole unit, underlays and Jumpman branding.

With the retail price set at $190, you can expect to find this pair at select Nike and JB stockists on New Year?s Eve, December 31st, 2016.

Additional imagery of this forthcoming Air Jordan 12 Premium in deep royal blue continue to surface online, as the model is expected to make its debut this Fall 2016.

As suggested, the basketball sneaker is draped in the defining blue tone, which essentially covers its premium composition that is comprised of smooth suede and textured leather overlays that are prominent on the forefoot. The model is further detailed with tonal laces, eyelets and Jumpman-branded panels on the side, as it all rests atop a matching full-length rubber sole unit.

Retailing for a price tag of $200, you can expect to find this variation of the silhouette at select Nike and JB retailers starting November 12th.

Gear Up For The Olympics This Weekend With The Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate

Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate 1 Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate 2 Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate 3

Earlier today we learned about the story behind the design of the upcoming Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate. It turns out that Tinker Hatfield designed this colorway at the same time he created the Olympic colorway but MJ decided that he liked the Olympic pair better. As a result this pair was put into the vault and Nike/Jordan Brand have decided to bring it out now.

The timing couldn’t be any better as the Summer Olympics will be kicking off this weekend and these are the perfect kicks to rock while cheering for Team USA. This Air Jordan 7 take a patriotic approach and uses a white, blue, and red color scheme while adding gold hits as a nod to the Olympic games. You’ll be able to purchase your pair in full family sizing beginning on August 6th.

This is a great twist on the classic Olympic colorway, but personally I wouldn?t buy a pair. I?m not too big on Olympic/patriotic sneakers.

An On-Feet Look At The Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Black Toe

Not only will the Bred 1s be releasing in exactly one month, Jordan Brand decided to throw us a bone and also release the Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Black Toe. Said to be releasing during the month of November, today we take our first look at the shoe on-feet.

The Black Toe colorway of the Jordan 1 High is also considered a OG colorway of the model. Most of the images we’ve seen of the shoe show that it does in fact look to be remastered. Consisting of a premium leather upper done in White, Black and Red, the shoe is done in a White leather base offset by the hits of Black and Red noted on the overlays, which happen to include the Black toe, of course. Wings branding is placed on the ankle, while the beloved Nike branding is noted on the tongue. Currently priced at $160 and a tentative November release date, how many of you consider this pair a must-cop?

Author’s Take

I never thought Jordan Brand would release this colorway this year. It’s definitely one of the best colorways on the 1s. If I have the chance to get a pair, I’d definitely pull the trigger. It’s a must-cop.

Air Jordan 1 Retro Bronze Medal

Why did Jordan Brand create a colorway inspired by the Olympic Bronze Medal? Why celebrate anything but gold? We’re not sure, but the shoe looks good, anyway. Actually we’re not even sure if the third place medal is the official inspiration for this new Air Jordan 1 High in crackled black and grey with metallic bronze accents, but when you put bronze on a sneaker this close to the Olympics, that’s obviously going to be the assumption. Either way, if you like the all-new colorway for the Air Jordan 1 you see here, be on the lookout for them at select Jordan Brand retailers soon.

Find Out The Story Behind The Design Of The Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate

This weekend we’ll see the arrival of the all-new Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate. But wait, is it really a new colorway?

It turns out that Tinker Hatfield designed this ‘Tinker Alternate’ version at the same time that he designed the original Olympic colorway that released in 1992.

?This one was in the works for a while,? says Hatfield of the patriotic basketball version of the Air Jordan VII. ?I did one that was more white based and one that was much more contrasted. My recollection is that MJ thought the contrasted one was really cool. Ultimately, I left it up to him.?

As we all know, Jordan ended up picking the white-based pair and the alternate version was placed in the archives, until now. Check out the Hatfield’s early sketches of the Olympic and Tinker Alternate colorways above and remember that the shoe will release on August 6th for $190. Click and bookmark our official Air Jordan 7 Tinker Alternate launch page now for detailed images, videos and release info.
