This is Michael Jordan wearing the Air Jordan 13 Black Cat, this weekend’s noteworthy Jordan drop. Along with the shoe, His Airness was going to be the focus of this week’s edition of NBA 2K17 Kicks. We were going to talk about how cool it was that Jordan Brand was finally going to release a true murdered out colorway of one of their more iconic (note: I’m a noted Air Jordan 13 hater, but I still recognize it’s significance, no matter how baffling it might be to my brain) silhouettes and how The Black Cat moniker takes on an extra significance with the 13. But something weird happened along the way to making the shoe. Once it was time to take screenshots of MJ and the Black Cat 13s though, it felt flat, like we could be doing more this week than just posting an all-black pair of kicks…
So we did more. This past Monday on MLK Day, we had an NBA Finals rematch between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. That game featured two players in the year 3 of their signature shoe history in the Kyrie Irving and Stephen Curry so instead of just focusing on the past with MJ we took a look at the league’s present and future with the Nike Kyrie 3 and Under Armour Curry 3.
For Kyrie, we didn’t want to go down a similar path with the Black Cat by just creating an all-black pair of Kyrie 3s so we did a little projecting and imagined what a potential Kyrie 3 Finals PE would look like. He’s worn similar treatments of Wine Red/Gold-White in the past two Finals. They look great in the shoe editor, but kind of miss the mark in the actual game because the metallic option doesn’t translate once again.
As for Steph, we tried to recreate the special Curry 3 “Back2Back Terms” PE that he wore in honor of his (STILL) President Barack Obama. As you might imagine, we couldn’t get the Presidential seal in the game, but other than that, it’s a close approximation of the real thing save for a few minor details.
