Author’s Take:

Renz Ofiaza, News: I really admire the design of this model. I like the overall sleekness, and in this colorway, it’s pretty classic in general. This variation is certainly one of its strongest iterations already.

Paul George Gets A Nike PG 1 Hickory High PE

Tomorrow’s the big debut of the Nike PG 1 at retail, with 12,000 individually-numbered pairs releasing through Nike SNKRS and Nike.com. Prior to that launch, Nike presents this Hickory High PE of Paul George’s Nike signature shoes donning the signature deep red and yellow colorway. One detail to note about the PG1 is that Nike is opting for unconventional materials for the upper; this PE makes use of a nylon upper with a subtle sheen, while tomorrow’s Shining release makes use of leather. Expect Paul to wear this tonight as the Pacers celebrate one of their six Hickory games.

We can’t confirm what model the collaboration is done on, but it does appear to have a Nike Blazer/AF1 look to it, don’t you think? Features we are able to point out are the velcro straps, the AF1 sole, the fragment design lightning bolt branded on the heel, and the tooling code that says ?fragment design? on the midsole. The Nike LeBron 14 Is Releasing In Red And Black

The next LeBron 14 is almost here, as the Nike LeBron 14 University Red is slated to release as soon as next Saturday, March 4th for $175 USD.

The Cavaliers were rather quiet at the trade deadline, but the head honchos of the Eastern Conference still have some of their best basketball to play ahead of them. LeBron continues to put up MVP numbers and is leading the league in minutes per game at the age of 32, so perhaps this Nike LeBron 14 University Red could help him make yet another All-NBA First Team in style.

The LeBron 14 Red Black features a rather Miami Heat-esque colorway as this particular shade of red is a bit lighter than the Cavaliers’ maroon uniforms. Contrasting accents of black can be found on the texturized strap overlay branding and piping throughout while a white midsole features additional speckling. An icy outsole unit features full volume Zoom Air for one of the most advanced cushioning systems in the signature shoe game today. Hints of red even extend underneath for ad added pop.

Check out more detailed shots of the latest LeBron 14 colorway below and stay tuned for more updates right here on Sneaker News.

Nike Basketball Released These Awesome Pen & Pixel Style T-Shirts

nike-basketball-pen-and-pixel-apparel-collection-01

Hip-hop and basketball are often synonymous with players wanting to be rappers and vice versa. That’s why we’re so excited about this latest Nike Basketball apparel collection that pays tribute to the gaudy era of southern hip-hop album covers that frequently featured designs from Pen & Pixel, a Houston-based company with a penchant for photoshopped revelry that specialized in the ridiculous.

Nike Basketball’s homage comes in the form of a handful of t-shirts featuring iced-out diamond encrusted basketballs featuring the likes of Kyrie Irving and Kobe Bryant. We can only hope that more are on the way featuring LeBron, Paul George, and the rest of the Swoosh’s hoops roster. Kyrie’s might be the best so far, with multiple overlays of a seriously grim-looking Kyrie, his signature logo shining in diamonds and a flaming ‘fear is not real’ wordmark at the bottom just resting there unexplained. Fear might not be, but a spherical world is, Kyrie. Prices range from $35 – $40 USD.

Grab your favorite tee today at Sneaker Politics and be on the lookout for each to arrive via Nike.com in the near future.

Revisiting The Nike Air Penny 4, Hardaways Last Signature Shoe As An NBA Player

With the Nike Air Penny 4 back on the shelves for another retro run, Nike SNKRS takes a look back at the history of Penny Hardaway’s often underrated signature model. Arriving in 1998 at a turning point in his career, the Penny 4 would be the last model worn by Penny during his time with the Orlando Magic throughout the injury-plagued later portion of his career. For this reason perhaps, the shoe never quite got the shine it deserved, fading into obscurity for many of those who weren’t diehard Penny or Nike Basketball fans.

Designed by the legend Eric Avar, the Penny 4 actually took some influence from Air Jordans of the time?a premium leather upper with parallel stitching similar to the Air Jordan 12, and suede ankle detailing and podular sole like the Air Jordan 13?adding a supportive ankle strap system and Air Max cushioning to the heel. Influence aside, the Penny 4 stands alone as a distinct and important piece of Nike Basketball’s late-90s history, and especially the history of Penny’s beloved line, as it was the last signature shoe he’d wear on court (the line was rebirthed years later with the Penny 5).

Almost 20 years later, the Penny 4 is back again, available now at Nike.com in its original home “Orlando” colorway, as well as a new OG-inspired black and royal look. Revisit the history of the shoe here with a look at an original sketch by Eric Avar and some rarely seen colorways.
