Author?s Take

Juan Carrillo, Editor: The Nike PG 1 continues with the hot colorways. It seems like the newest one is always the hottest one as well. I really hope these drop since I’m a big fan of Olive sneakers as well as a PG fan.

Release Date: Nike Special Field Air Force 1 Mid Black Tiger Camo

We’ve seen lots of different colorways of the upcoming Nike Special Field Air Force 1 Mid already, but what we haven’t gotten is a release date. Well that changes today as we have a date to report for the first Black Tiger Camo colorway that we see above.

This debut colorway of the Nike Special Field Air Force 1 Mid features an engineered, tiger-stripe camouflage jacquard and a double-zipper entry at the heel. Text on the lateral side of the shoe is grounded in the aesthetic of technical specifications. Urban Utility Footwear refers to the product’s function, and Summer ’17 refers to the season. The Nike Cortez Compton Hits The Streets Next Week

You’ve already seen the Nike Cortez Long Beach, now we got word that the city of Compton will also be getting their own Cortez to help celebrate the 45th anniversary of Nike’s first ever running model that eventually turned in a street icon.

The Nike Cortez Compton pays homage to the streetwear inspiration the running model has had on many barrios across the county, especially in Southern California. The Cortez was the go-to sneaker for the streets of Los Angeles during the ’80s and ’90s especially in the Latin American and hip-hop community. Decades later, the Cortez continues to have a strong influence on these communities and will continue to do so for the unforeseeable future. The Nike Cortez Compton is a part of a special LA pack, which also consists of the Long Beach pair we previewed last week. The Compton pair comes in a classic nylon and suede upper with Black taking care of the base and the White found on the leather heel tab, leather tongue and nylon tongue acting as the accented color. “Compton” branding is placed on the heel tab, while Gold “CPT” branding in Old English gives the shoe that “street” motif. Releasing on June 1st for $130, let us know if you plan on picking up a pair.

Learn The History Of Nikes Jewel Swooshes

Channeling some late ’90s and early 2000’s nostalgia, this summer Nike Sportswear is bringing back the Jewel Swoosh. First appearing on the Air Force 1 in 1997, the alternate branding has become a cult classic motif on the Air Force 1 Low and Mid, as well as the Cortez and Air Max 1. With all three sneakers bringing the Jewel Swoosh back this year, Nike SNKRS takes a look at the history of the precious sneaker gems.

The Jewel Swoosh first appeared on the Air Force 1 Low in 1997 as a fresh new, contemporary take on the classic model. The Air Force 1 Jewel was designed by the late Sean McConnell, who also helped design the original Air Force 1 Mid?where the bejeweled Swoosh would also soon appear.

While the Air Force 1 Jewel was gaining popularity on the East Coast, the West Coast got their iconic Nike model with jewel Swooshes: the Cortez.

The third most notable model to receive the Jewel Swoosh was the Air Max 1. Again appearing first in the late ’90s, the Air Max 1 Jewel was mostly released in Europe in a wide variety of colorways. Now all three models are back in 2017, with the Air Force 1 already available and the Cortez and Air Max 1 coming in early June.
