New Look At The Air Jordan 13 History of Flight

Last week we saw the release of the Air Jordan 7 Pantone, a shoe that was once exclusively a sample but eventually made it retailers. This Summer we’ll see the same thing happen with the Air Jordan 13 History Of Flight.

This colorway of the Air Jordan 13 easily looks like something that could have been worn by MJ back in his playing days as it features a White tumbled leather upper with University Red accents on the inner liner and outsole. Other details include black laces and a Metallic Silver Jumpman on the tongue. As of right now the Air Jordan 13 History of Flight is expected to release on July 22, 2017 for a retail price of $190.

A First Look At The Air Jordan 1 High OG Flyknit Bred

It appears that the Air Jordan 1 will be undergoing a major transformation this year as we take a first look at the Air Jordan 1 High OG Flyknit.

Seen for the first time, this modified version of the iconic Air Jordan 1 model comes with a big change as the traditional leather upper has been swapped out with breathable Flyknit material. Minimal hits of leather are seen on the Swoosh and Wings logos, as well as on the OG Nike Air tongue tab. This pair seen above comes in the Bred/Banned red and black colorway. No release information is available at the moment, but stay tuned to Kicks On Fire for more updates and images as they become available.

Air Jordan 1 Flyknit Banned Releasing This Year

It was only a matter of time before Nike’s most prized innovation of the 21st century would make its way on one of the most iconic basketball sneakers of all-time. The Air Jordan 1 Flyknit will indeed release this year in the “Banned” colorway, seen here during a Spurs/Blazers Playoffs game in Portland. The Jordan MTM Pack in 2015 came close as the Air Jordan 1 from that Pack was built with the new Flyweave material, but the true Flyknit version is what sneakerheads have been waiting for. Stay tuned for release updates.

Author’s Take

Andres Carrillo, Editor: I’m a fan of Jordan 1s, but this colorway is a little too plain for my liking. These will probably go on sale like the Yin-Yangs which means plenty of people will be picking up a pair and rocking them as beaters. I’d rather just stick with something more classic like the Breds.

The Air Jordan 1 High OG Metallic Red Is Available Early, To Some

Jordan Brand is set to release the Air Jordan 1 High OG Metallic Red this weekend. It’s a classic Air Jordan 1 colorway that in my opinion is very under appreciated. Although we’re unsure whether these will be an instant sell-out or not, some of you may not have to wait until Saturday to find out since Nike has given select users a chance to cop early? Want to find out if you’re one of the select few? All you have to do is login to your Nike account and see if Nike gave you early access to the shoe.

The Air Jordan 1 High OG Metallic Red is the latest retro to  arrive before it’s official release date via the Nike Early Access program. Although this has already occurred on a handful of past releases, we are still unsure how Nike decides which users get early access. If this is a must-cop in your opinion, we suggest you login and see if you chosen, that way you don’t have to wake up early on Saturday morning and stress over this latest release. Officially releasing May 6th  for $160, be sure to click and bookmark our Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Metallic Red hub page for the latest updates and full release details.

Air Jordans Were The Best-Selling Shoes In The First Quarter Of 2017

NPD Group’s Matt Powell released an interesting analysis of what exactly happened financially with the sneaker industry in the first quarter of 2017. The industry analyst took a quick break from shooting down hypebeasts and lifestyle publications on Twitter to paint the picture that despite overall optimistic market results, industry giants like Nike are still facing challenges in some major categories that were once its strongest like basketball, running, and training. Even though Nike Inc. sales declined in the high single-digits for the first quarter of this year, they had some of the top sellers ranging from the Air Jordan 6, the Nike Air Huarache, the Air Jordan 13, and the Air Jordan 4. The lone shoe not in Nike’s arsenal in the top 5 was the adidas Superstar. So despite the perception that Jordan retros are often left on shelves, the fact that the Jumpman is producing a higher quantity is still driving sales. Even with Nike’s seeming dominance in the best-selling category, adidas sales grew close to an incredible 85% thanks to improvements in both Running and Originals. Under Armour continues to falter though, as footwear sales declined in the double-digits.

Some other notable facts from Powell’s article include:

– The casual athletic category saw sales up 36% from the previous year
– Classics saw an 11% increase but the growth was slower than previously
– Running categories were down 5% but Powel points to weather preventing growth

Check out Matt Powell’s analysis titled Sneakernomics: Why Q1 Did Not Bode Well for U.S. Athletic Foorwear Sales here.
