Author’s Take

There’s nothing that really stands out about the Nike Air Zoom Vomero 11 visually to me so it doesn’t really catch my attention. Maybe if I were to try on a pair I’d feel differently. Doubt I’ll be doing so though.

Author’s Take

None of these shoes really catch my attention with the exception of maybe the Flyknit Lunar 3 since I already own a pair. I’ll have to pass on this entire pack.

Two More NikeLab Air Force 1s To Release This Week

In addition to the Light Charcoal colorways of the NikeLab Air Force 1 Low and Mid that we gave you a look at earlier today, we can now add two more pairs of lux Air Force 1s to the mix.

Also releasing this week are two Urban Haze (olive) colorways of the NikeLab Air Force 1 Low and Mid. Dressed in a full premium leather upper, both of these NikeLab Air Force 1s are done in the same green tonal colorway with contrasting white midsoles and outsoles.

Both of these Urban Haze colorways will also be releasing on March 3rd, the same day as the Light Charcoal versions.

Author’s Take

Another very clean colorway of the NikeLab Air Force 1. NikeLab continues to kill it with these tonal uppers. I wouldn’t mind owning of either pairs but with the Spring and Summer coming up I’d prefer the Lows.

NikeLab is back at it again with more colorways of their highly sought after NikeLab Air Force 1.

Keeping things in the tonal department, NikeLab has now decided to give us Light Charcoal colorways of the NikeLab Air Force 1 Low and NikeLab Air Force 1 Mid. Just like the previous colorways that have released, the entire upper on this premium version of the Nike Air Force 1 is dressed in a fine leather all through with both being done in the Light Charcoal. Contrasting White sole units along with an icy blue translucent outsole with Nike branding on the forefoot finish off the clean look.

Look for the Mid and Low Light Charcoal colorways of the NikeLab Air Force 1 at NikeLab and select Nike Sportswear accounts beginning on March 3rd.

Author’s Take

Out of all of the colorways that have already released this Light Charcoal would have to be my 2nd favorite right behind the Vachetta Tan. Out of the two silhouettes I would have to go with the Lows.

Kyrie Irving Goes Back To College With The Nike Kyrie 2 Duke

Kyrie Irving may have been a one-and-done for his college career, but he still seems to have some pride for his former college squad, as his second signature shoe receives a Duke Blue Devils colorway just like his first. This easily recognizable Duke color scheme on the Nike Kyrie 2 features a predominantly royal blue upper with black and white accents throughout that’s definitely an appealing look whether you love or hate the team it references. Evereyon can find the Kyrie 2 “Duke” at select Nike Basketball retailers like Sneaker Politics this Saturday.

The Life: A Closer Look At The Nike Koston 3 In Beverly Hills

“Wait, are we at Jimmy Goldstein’s house?”

Yes, we were at James Goldstein’s house (more on that later) for the official reveal and launch of the Nike Koston 3, skateboarding legend Eric Koston’s latest Nike SB offering. With a greater emphasis on performance than ever before, the Koston 3 is in the words of Koston himself, “disruptive.” It’s an apt description for a skate shoe with a drop-in Lunar/Zoom Air midsole and Flyknit collar. The Koston 3 is unlike any other skate shoe out there and that’s how Koston, Nike SB Design Director Shawn Carboy and Nike like it.

Sitting on the same couch The Dude once lounged in years ago, we had a chance to talk to Koston and Carboy about the Koston 3. Maybe you already saw it on our live Periscope broadcast a few days ago, but here it is for your enjoyment and without the snarky comments that I daftly blocked while listening to what Koston and Carboy had to say.

Some choice quotes from the chat:

– Koston: Everything that I do is performance based… aesthetics are an important aspect, but I make sure there’s always a balance, there’s a lot of give and take…

– Carboy: The 3 (meaning Koston’s third signature shoe even at different brands) has always been the one that transcends so we knew we had to completely make it unique and different…

– Koston: I do expect a lot of people to see it and hate it, but then I want them to see it, forget about it and then see it again and become more and more intrigued and when they go to a shop, [they’ll want to] try it on and see it for themselves. I kind of want to draw people in. I know it’s a little shocking for skaters, [but] we’ve become so comfortable with basic and sort of retro styles that are very simplistic and minimal with not a whole lot going on in performance. Those shoes do work and skaters know that… but also at the same time, there’s no creativity and nothing new is happening and we’re trying to innovate. Nike [is] all about [innovating] and that’s what I’m all about in designing skate footwear… any advantage that’s gained with Nike’s help that’s a win.

– Carboy: You have to see it on and you have to see someone skate in it… I compare it to the NBA, when you see your idol wear it, then you know it works. For some kids, they are the influencer and they’ll ‘yeah, I can do it’ and they’ll take the risk. There’s something to be said about your idols and people you look up to that are willing to show it can work.

– Koston: After people seeing it more on my feet that’s when [Koston’s friends] started looking at it differently. The shoe definitely looks different on-foot and on a board than they do on a shelf of a store… you need to see a foot inside of the shoe.

Nike Koston 3 17 Nike Koston 3 18 Nike Koston 3 14 Nike Koston 3 13 Nike Koston 3 112 Nike Koston 3 19 Nike Koston 3 110 Nike Koston 3 15

Here’s the secret that you probably won’t notice from official pictures of the Koston 3 and everything you’ve seen on social media so far: without the Flyknit collar, the Koston 3 looks like your typical Nike SB shoe. They could have slapped on a thick tongue on the 3 and not used Flyknit and they could have called it a day. But if you want to be disruptive, you have to take it to that proverbial next level and Koston and company did just that. You won’t notice just how advanced the shoe feels until you have it in person.

The drop-in Lunar midsole will be familiar to those of you who have tried a pair of the Nike Kobe 11 or even a pair of Chuck Taylor 2s, with the difference coming in the Zoom Air pod on the heel. Unfortunately the outsole isn’t as translucent as the Kobe 11 so you can’t say slap a KicksOnFire sticker on the bottom of the midsole and have it visible through the outsole. Maybe if they release an icy blue version down the line.

The Flyknit collar is mostly new to skateboarding, but if you have tried on a pair of Magista X boots, you’ll get an idea of how they feel. It’s supposed to feel snug on your feet as the Flyknit mixed with Flywire inside the side panels offers that support and protection (or at the very least gives the impression of support and protection). In this case, the Flywire stabilizes your feet and prevents it from bouncing around the shoe, which would basically hinder the control of your board and prevent you from performing at your best.

So can you wear them without socks casuallly like maybe a Flyknit Racer, like in the picture above? I’m going to say no. While I’m no skater by any means, I am familiar with the Flyknit collar having worn Kobes and other shoes with similar tech and I would recommend wearing socks especially if you have wider feet.

Nike Koston 3 113
It really is like a scene out of Entourage

As for the event itself, we were at the Beverly Hills residence of one James Goldstein, who you might know as the NBA’s biggest superfan. The home is famous in Los Angeles circles for its unique futuristic design – it was the work of architect John Lautner – and breathtaking view of the City of Angels. It has been featured in movies like The Big Lebowski and music videos like 2 Chainz “Feds Watching”. Recently Goldstein donated the house to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, although he will continue to live there and lend it out for special events. Little did we know that one of those events was for the launch of the Koston 3.

Nike Koston 3 12
This is a nightclub inside Goldstein’s house. No really, he has a club in his house.

So why the big party for a Nike SB signature shoe or any Nike shoe for that matter? If you’ve been following the signature shoe launches of Nike athletes from Kobe Bryant to Tiger Woods and even Michael Jordan, they are all very contained and controlled affairs where the focus is on shoe and the athlete if they’re in attendance. From the beginning, this event felt very different; from the shuttle bus we had to get on just to make it to Goldstein’s house to the golf cart we had to ride once we were outside of the property. There was the koi pond, the amazing Los Angeles view that felt like I was part of Vinny Chase’s crew to the very relaxed atmosphere overall. It was just time to do something like this and good thing Nike invited me when they decided to let their hair down for once. Although I get the feeling we’ll be back to trying to kill me soon enough…

Londons Subway System Inspires This Nike SB Bruin

Nike Bruin SB Premium 1 Nike Bruin SB Premium 2 Nike Bruin SB Premium 3 Nike Bruin SB Premium 4 Nike Bruin SB Premium 5 Nike Bruin SB Premium 6

The Nike SB Bruin returns with this new Premium SE colorway that serves as a nod to the commuters of London.

Utilizing a White leather all throughout the upper, this SB Bruin features University Red detailing on the Swoosh, and the Nike branding on the tongue and heel. Blue Spark then appears outlining the Swoosh as well as on the tongue tab. The connection to London comes on the insole as the print/graphic that was used resembles the one used on the city’s subway seats. The upper eyelets are then meant to represent the subway rails. This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as Nike has released a pack inspired by London’s subway system before with the London Underground x Nike Air Max Collection that featured the Air Max 90 and Air Max 1.

There is still no release date for the SB Bruin but it shouldn’t be much longer until they hit retailers.

Author’s Take

Nice and simple colorway of the SB Bruin. The inspiration isn’t too obvious so it can be a sneaker that’s worn on a daily basis.

Nike Unveils KD 8 Elite

KD8 Elite 1 KD8 Elite 2 KD8 Elite 3 KD8 Elite 4 KD8 Elite 5 KD8 Elite 6 KD8 Elite 7 KD8 Elite 8 KD8 Elite 9 KD8 Elite 10 KD8 Elite 11 KD8 Elite 12 KD8 Elite 13 KD8 Elite 14 KD8 Elite 15 KD8 Elite 16 KD8 Elite 17 KD8 Elite 18

With the postseason less than two months away, Nike took the time today to officially unveil the Nike KD 8 Elite. Nike calls it “a technically advanced, provocative new version of his eighth signature shoe.”

Created in collaboration with designer Leo Chang, the Nike KD 8 Elite features a calf-length compression sock, full-length visible Nike Zoom Air cushioning and Flywire technology with Kevlar aramid fiber.

?Transitioning from a low to high is a decision we made with confidence based on our ongoing feedback from Durant to always push the limit on innovative design,? says Chang.

?The KD8 Elite is conceptually designed to blur the lines between the shoe, sock and tight; seamlessly transitioning between each so you can?t differentiate where one begins and the other ends.?

The three key benefits of the KD 8 Elite are as follows: Built-in, crew-length compression sock for enhanced support, Full-length visible Nike Zoom Air cushioning for a responsive ride, and Flywire technology with Kevlar aramid fiber for superior lockdown.

You can find the KD8 Elite white colorway globally beginning on April 14 at nike.com and select retail locations. Two additional colorways will be available May 5th (grey) and May 26th (black).

Author’s Take

That high compression sock gives a unique look to the KD 8 that sort of makes it look like a soccer shoe. I’m curious to see how people will react to the shoe and how it will perform on-court.

Nike Unveils Four Colorways Of The Air Classic BW Ultra

Nike Sportswear is bringing back the Nike Air Classic BW in a number of ways throughout 2016, as the 1991 retro running model is celebrating its 25th anniversary in style. The Air Max BW was a major success in the early 90s, transitioning from a functional distance running offering to being a lifestyle go-to the world over. The Nike Air Classic BW Ultra is a slightly modernized update featuring a slimmed down outsole to shed some of the added bulk for a smoother, more comfortable ride. NSW will be updating the silhouette with four new colorways, each featuring a monochromatic dominating shade of either seafoam green, university red, navy, or black. No word yet on when this quartet will arrive at stores, but check out our full release date page for the latest look at what’s in store for March.

A Brief History of Nikes Classic Big Window Runner

You’ve seen the Nike Air Max BW a thousand times before, especially in the iconic “Persian Violet” colorway, and know it’s one of the all-time classic running models from the brand, but do you know what that “BW” actually stands for? If you aren’t already well-versed in your Air Max history and know the answer, the BW is short for “Big Window”, a simple reference to the visible Air window, which was slightly larger than its predecessor, the Air Max 90. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released in 1991, the Nike Air BW (“Air Max” was never in the shoe’s original official name, despite saying it on the back of the heels) quickly became a popular option for both distance runners and those just looking for a clean and stylish pair of sneakers?favored most notably by R&B and rap stars in America and the UK.

From the OG “Persian Violet to the sought-after Stash collab, the Air Max Classic BW, as it’s now called, has been a staple in Nike’s retro catalog throughout the years, and now it’s back again for another run in 2016. The original construction in Persian Violet returns alongside an ‘Ultra’ reworking of the famous silhouette, featuring a modified, lighter construction in modern colorways. The BW’s big season begins March 3rd with the release of the Air Max BW Ultra, and then the OG version in Persian Violet drops March 8th. Enjoy a look at Tinker’s original design sketches of the BW and the 2016 retro in full detail below.

Nike Kobe 11 Bruce Lee

The Nike Zoom Kobe V “Bruce Lee” is considered to be one of the best Kobe releases ever. Since that shoe, released in late 2009 at the peak of Kobe-mania and disappearing from retail shelves shortly thereafter, we’ve seen a yellow/black-red Kobe colorway atop nearly every signature Black Mamba installment to date. Now we’re blessed with another Enter the Dragon and Game of Death reference to pay respects to Kobe’s farewell tour with the Nike Kobe 11 “Bruce Lee”. The red heel stitching is replaced by aesthetically similar scratches in an effort to pay homage to the wounds Lee received in the classic film Enter the Dragon. The overall Univeristy Gold and Black Flyknit stitching matches the suit that Bruce wore in the 1978 film Game of Death. Blood red hints land on exposed portions of the Kobe 11‘s Dynamic Flywire system, tongue, and heel branding while the hidden Zoom Air insole features a similar shade. Where would you rank this year’s Bruce Lee reference compared to past installments? Grab the Bruce Lee Kobe 11 on March 19th for $200. Action figure not included.
