Buy, Pass, Wait: Air Jordan 15 Stealth, Sneakers That Will Excite Or Disappoint In 2017
By SoleInsider
We’re starting off the new year with an Air Jordan retro. That’s not surprising at all; if anything, it’s to be expected at this point. But really? The Air Jordan 15 and it’s not remixed Kubo version? Oh geez…
In this edition of Buy, Pass, Wait, we talk about the Stealth 15 but quickly move on to other things dropping this weekend including a new pair of Kobes and what we expect will do well and fail spectacularly in 2017.
Air Jordan 15 Stealth
Nike
Juan Martinez, Editor-In-Chief (PASS): Nope. Tinker Hatfield says his least favorite Air Jordan design is the 15 and I couldn’t agree more. While my disdain for the Air Jordan 13 is legendary at this point, the 15 is really the one that I can’t wrap my head around. The woven upper was literally two decades ahead of its time (word to the Jordan Future) and the collar/tongue has the same appeal of a “too cool” dude who thinks flipping the collar of their Polo Ralph Lauren shirt is a good idea. The silhouette never worked no matter how hard Jordan Brand tried – it would take Kubo And The Two Strings and Tinker going to back “re-do” the 15 to somewhat salvage the shoe – and I can’t believe we’re getting a retro in 2017. This is not the way to start the new year, guys.
Renz Ofiaza, News: (PASS) I used to dislike this pair when it first came out, but now, it actually flows with the trend and it’s really modern appealing. You can’t go wrong with this colorway, although I’m actually not that interested. Maybe if it’ll be available in a much lower price then I’ll consider.
Andres Carrillo, News: (PASS) I’ve never been a fan of the 15s, especially not a colorway this plain. I think this shoe will be one of the biggest flops from Jordan Brand of 2017. The Obsidian pair looks better, but this pair this isn’t something I would wear.
Juan Carrillo, News: (PASS) Another blacked out Jordan for $220 after tax? I’ve never been a fan of the ‘unique’ look of the 15s and have no plans of becoming one now. Hey, at least Jordan is dropping a different numbered retro this time around.
Air Jordan 31 Black Toe
Nike
EIC Juan: (WAIT) I like these, but not enough to pay full price at retail. The execution on the “Black Toe” concept works but once again it’s the Jumpman that really irks me about the 31 more than anything else. Let’s see some more premium releases sans Jumpman…
Renz: (PASS) Definitely one of the silhouette’s nicest colorways to welcome the new year. It’s an appealing option but I’m not too keen on it.
Andres: (WAIT) I’ve liked this colorway of the 31 since I saw it a couple weeks ago. That white Flyweave upper looks real nice but I’d be scared to wear these because of how easy they’ll get dirty. If I were to cop it would be down the line when they get lowered in price. Solid release in my opinion.
News Juan: (WAIT) Very clean colorway of the 31. Jordan Brand got it right when it came to the colorways used on the 31. With that being said, I still see these sitting, so I’d rather wait and maybe pick them up 3-4 months down the road at a fraction of the price.
Nike Kobe A.D. White
Nike
EIC Juan: (WAIT) The Kobe A.D. Black/White is already sitting in stores, so there’s no reason to expect this colorway to do the same. I love how it looks, but not enough to justify a full $160 purchase. But when they $99 like the Kobe 11s are right now? Watch out…
Renz: (WAIT) I would’ve preferred the Christmas PE more with a gold swoosh, but, this variation is pretty sleek and stylish as well. I’m a fan of this model and I’d consider this pair to be my first purchase — at a lower price.
Andres: (PASS) Shouldn’t Nike have waited until the Spring or Summer to drop this colorway? I think it looks clean, but not for $160. I’ll pass and wait for another colorway.
News Juan: (PASS) Meh. An all-White Kobe. Not too exciting. I still think the Kobe A.D. can be a good looking sneaker, but I’ve yet to see anything that even remotely excites me.
What Sneaker Are You Most Looking Forward To In 2017?
EIC Juan: The Next Awesome Vans Collaboration
Vans
After years of resisting, I am on a serious Vans kick at the moment. But my interest for them goes as far as how cool their next pop culture collabs are to me. They won me over with the Nintendo and Toy Story drops last year so 2017 has to be something on that level to keep the momentum going, like maybe something that pays homage to SEGA or something wild like that. For the record, I would totally wear a Revenge Of Shinobi SK8 Hi or a Dreamcast Old Skool, just saying…
Renz: Yeezy Season 4
@sneakerprophet_
Hate to sound generic but, the Yeezy Boost 350 v2. — Yeezy Season 4 and current rumors showcase what’s on the horizon and I’m still waiting to acquire a pair in the original retail price tag.
Andres: Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG Royal
Photoshop by sneaker4life
It’s still too early to know everything that will be releasing this year, but from what we do know I’m looking forward to the Royal 1s. Just like the Bred 1s, I’ve wanted a pair for a while now but they’ve always been out of reach. Hopefully this year I can get my hands on them.
News Juan: What’s Next For Boost
adidas
I’d like to see what direction adidas decides to do with Boost. I like the concept of utilizing it on some of their classic models. I can’t wait until they start dropping retro models constructed out of both Primeknit and Boost. Jordan Brand wise, I hear that Royal 1s and Black Cement 3 will be dropping in OG fashion, those are definitely a must-cop. I’m also looking to see what Nike releases to counter the three Three Stripe’s Boost. Once they figure it out, it’s game time!
What Sneaker Will Disappoint In 2017?
EIC Juan: All Challengers To The NMD
Nike
The energy and enthusiasm for the adidas NMD is only going to grow in 2017 as more people get their hands on the shoe and the supply meets the demand. The three stripes has been smart about not oversaturating the market with NMDs even though you can’t walk around anywhere without seeing somebody wearing a pair. It’s that fine balance that will keep the NMD at or near the top of 2017, which is why I think the offerings that Nike and their competitors will drop to combat the NMD won’t hit. Some will be successful and maybe lay the groundwork for the future sneaker of #TeamComfy, but for now the NMD will reign supreme.
Renz: adidas Harden Vol. 1 or Nike Kyrie 3
adidasNike
Kind of early to call in my view, but, maybe the Harden Vol. 1 or the Kyrie 3. Aesthetically, I’m not a big fan of either silhouette, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
Andres: Yeezys
Disappoint? Well it’s hard for me to say because adidas has been killing it with the NMD and Ultra Boost and we don’t come to expect too much from Jordan Brand anymore aside from a handful of drops throughout the year. If anything I would have to day Yeezys. Not for the fact that people won’t buy them anymore, but because they’ll continue to release in small quantities leaving the demand much higher than the supply. Plus there really hasn’t been any crazy colorways that people have made people go crazy. Kanye needs to design something completely new or different to keep things interesting. Don’t just give me five different versions of the same shoe with a different colored stripe on the side.
News Juan: adidas NMD
@sneakerprophet_
I wouldn’t necessarily say disappoint, but I think that the NMD will finally begin slowing down and begin sitting. Lots of colors will end up sitting on shelves, some may even be found at outlets. I hope adidas finds ways to freshen up the silhouette, but there’s only so much you can do, just ask the Roshe Run, they’ll tell you.
Bonus: I predict (especially if Kanye continues down the current path he’s going) that at least 1 Yeezy 350 will end up sitting on shelves. The resell market for the shoe is declining, the next logical step would be that the shoe’s don’t end up selling out right away. Don’t quote me, but I’m just saying.
Unveiled back in 1999, the return of the classic Air Jordan 15 Stealth simply kicks off Jordan Brand?s 2017 lineup.
Defined by a sleek futuristic-like profile inspired by a stealth fighter plane, the basketball sneaker is blacked-out, which also bears a distinctive woven upper and sock-like inner bootie construction that defines its overall aesthetic. Matching leather panels and a full-length rubber sole unit, in addition to vibrant red accents throughout solidify its profile altogether.
Priced at $190, you can purchase a pair at select JB and Nike stockists starting Saturday, January 7, 2017.
